October 26, 2015 (Vancouver, BC) – Fresh off her Road Trip Tour dates with Dean Brody and Paul Brandt, Madeline Merlo received a warm welcome home by the BC Country Music Association Awards, performing her latest single Honey Jack live and snagging 2015 Female Vocalist of the Year.

Merlo, who also took home the 2015 CCMA Rising Star Award in Halifax last month, was “honoured and humbled to be recognized” by the BCCMA. Like many country artists, her success started locally, with BC country radio station JRFM picking up her first hit, Sinking Like a Stone. This led to her signing with Open Road Recordings at just 18 years old and releasing her self-titled debut EP in 2014.

Though she was nominated for Female Artist of the Year and the Ray McCauley Horizon Award by the BCCMA in 2014, this marks her first win. “This category was filled with really talented women and it’s a privilege to share it with an artist like Karen,” Merlo said.

Merlo is currently gearing up to release a new album and her movie-musical debut, Country Crush in early 2016. Acting alongside Jana Kramer and Sophie Tweed-Simmons, Merlo plays lead character Nancy Taylor, an aspiring country singer who faces several challenges on her road to fame.
