Over 500,000 Sold Globally and 17.7 Million Streams in One Week
“Drag Me Down” Smashed All Spotify Records
(August 10, 2015) – One Direction were named No.1 on the UK’s Official Singles Chart with “Drag Me Down,” and also debuted at #1 in Canada this week with over 30,000 tracks scanned on the Digital Song chart.
The world’s biggest pop band surprised fans on Friday, July 31 with the impromptu release of the song, which instantly became the group’s most successful global single launch ever, selling over 500,000 copies in its first week.
In total, so far, “Drag Me Down” hit No.1 on iTunes in a staggering 90 countries.
The track received 4.75m Spotify streams on the first day, smashing Wiz Khalifa’s record (of 4.25m streams), and shot straight to the top of the Spotify Global Chart on its first day of release, the first track ever to achieve this in Spotify history. “Drag Me Down” scored the top spot on Spotify in 17 individual countries including Canada and the USA.
Overall “Drag Me Down” has had 17.7 million streams to date globally.
The band shot the video for “Drag Me Down” at NASA’s headquarters in Houston, TX last week, directed by long term collaborators Fulwell 73.
